Vertical machining center is one of the processing equipment widely used in industrial manufacturing at present. Its advantage is that it can process various complex shapes of parts efficiently and accurately. However, with the changes in market demand, more and more machining center manufacturers are constantly introducing different processing methods to meet different processing needs. So, which processing method is more suitable for your processing needs? The three main processing methods of the vertical machining center will be introduced respectively below.

Milling

Milling is the most common processing method of vertical machining centers. Its principle is to use a milling cutter to cut and process the surface of the part, and move along the three directions of X, Y, and Z to complete the processing of various shapes. Milling is mainly suitable for processing flat, round or shallow concave-convex parts.

When choosing a milling operation, there are several factors to consider:

(1) Part material

Milling is not suitable for processing brittle and high-hardness materials, but it has good processing effects on materials such as aluminum alloy, copper, and some plastics.

(2) Part size

Milling is suitable for processing parts with large batches and large sizes. Since the size of parts has an impact on the processing effect, it needs to be carefully considered.

(3) Part bridge degree

In milling, the bridge degree of parts plays an important role in the processing efficiency and quality of parts. If the bridge type is too large, it may cause vibration during cutting, which will affect the processing efficiency and processing quality.

Drilling

Drilling is another common processing method of vertical machining centers, which is mainly used to drill holes on the surface of parts. Compared with manual operation, drilling processing can realize automatic and continuous processing, and improve processing efficiency and accuracy. In addition, drilling can also be combined with milling.

When choosing a drilling process, the following factors need to be considered:

(1) Aperture size

The diameter of the drill bit determines the size of the hole that can be drilled during processing. If a large hole diameter needs to be processed, continuous hole processing or drilling cooling technology can be adopted.

(2) Hole depth requirements

The hole depth of drilling processing is relatively shallow. If deep holes need to be processed, other processing methods need to be considered.

(3) Hole position

Focus on the influence of hole position, inclination angle, hole center distance and other factors on the processing accuracy to ensure that the process meets the requirements.

high speed machining

High-speed machining is a new type of vertical machining that has emerged in recent years. It mainly uses high-speed rotating tools for cutting on high-speed machining centers. Compared with conventional vertical processing, high-speed processing has higher processing speed, higher processing accuracy and lower surface roughness.

When choosing high-speed machining, the following factors need to be considered:

(1) Material suitability

High-speed machining is suitable for materials such as semiconductors, ceramics, and steel, and can achieve higher machining efficiency and machining accuracy during machining.

(2) Selection of tools

In high-speed machining, the choice of tool has a very important impact on the processing effect, and it is necessary to select the appropriate tool according to the processing requirements.

(3) Processing surface roughness requirements

High-speed processing can obtain lower surface roughness, but it also needs to be selected according to actual processing requirements.

In general, the three processing methods of vertical machining centers have their own advantages and disadvantages, and they need to be selected according to actual processing needs. When choosing a vertical machining center, it is recommended to consider factors such as material, part size, part shape, processing accuracy, surface roughness, etc., and choose a processing method that suits your own process flow, so as to achieve more efficient and accurate processing results.
